How the APP- concept works

At Bråttsjy, we are developing a new drone concept built around the ability to perch on objects and operate from within the surrounding environment.

Unlike conventional drones that remain airborne for the duration of a mission, perch-enabled systems can position themselves within the environment and remain available over extended periods of time.

This approach opens new possibilities for observation, communication and coordination in areas where traditional infrastructure is unavailable or impractical.

PARTNERS

At Bråttsjy, we refer to these perchable drones as Parasites. The name draws inspiration from nature, where parasites survive by attaching themselves to existing hosts rather than creating their own habitat.

In a similar way, Parasites make use of existing structures

within the environment, allowing them to operate as temporary aerial infrastructure without the need for permanent installations.

By combining aerial mobility with the ability to perch on existing structures, our Parasites blur the line between drones and infrastructure. Once positioned, they can operate as mounted nodes within the environment while still retaining the ability to relocate when required.

Once positioned, a Parasite can remain available at its position for extended periods of time. It operates from advantageous, elevated or concealed locations that may otherwise be difficult, impractical or even dangerous to access.

Concealed within the environment, Parasites can act as hidden eyes and ears, providing persistent observation and situational awareness from within the area they are deployed to.

The Parasites

Network Effects

While a single Parasite can provide valuable capabilities on its own, the concept becomes increasingly powerful when multiple nodes operate as a network.

Once deployed across an area, Parasites can form a distributed layer of sensing and communication nodes capable of supporting one another. Information gathered by individual nodes can be shared across the network, reducing blind spots and providing a broader understanding of the surrounding environment.

From a technical perspective, a network of Parasites creates opportunities for distributed sensing, communications relay, mesh networking and range extension without the need for permanent infrastructure. New nodes can be added as operational requirements

change, allowing the network to grow, adapt and reposition over time.

Unlike centralized systems, a network of Parasites does not rely on a single point of failure. Individual nodes can be lost, replaced or redeployed without compromising the network as a whole. This distributed architecture may increase resilience and operational flexibility in complex and contested environments.

AERIAL PARASITIC PLATFORM

Bråttsjy AS is a Norwegian technology development company exploring new capabilities for aerial systems through its Aerial Parasitic Platform (APP).

In addition to the development of Parasite nodes, several concepts and projects are currently being explored around the opportunity space created by the platform. These include support capabilities for C-UAV systems, communication technologies and future applications within public safety and situational awareness.

The company welcomes dialogue with technology providers, research environments and industry partners interested in contributing technologies, expertise or new applications relevant to the APP platform.

Bråttsjy AS is a member of the NORDSEC defence and security cluster.
